The National Weather Service issued a Blizzard Warning for Clifton until monday afternoon (12/27/10)at 6pm.
Accumulations of 11 to 16 inches of snow are expected with local areas possibly to see more. Snow will begin with flurries Sunday morning before noon with the heaviest times of snow occurring late Sunday afternoon into Sunday night. Snow mixed with sleet will take place late Sunday nite into Monday morning.
WINDS....DURING THE HEIGHT OF THE STORM SUNDAY NIGHT...NORTH WINDS WILL INCREASE TO 20 TO 35 MPH WITH GUSTS 40 TO 55 MPH...HIGHEST ACROSS CENTRAL AND EASTERN LONG ISLAND.
IMPACTS...EXTREMELY DANGEROUS TRAVEL CONDITIONS DEVELOPING DUE TO SIGNIFICANT SNOW ACCUMULATIONS...AND STRONG WINDS CAUSING CONSIDERABLE BLOWING AND DRIFTING OF SNOW. VISIBILITIES WILL BENEAR ZERO AT TIMES...WITH WHITEOUT CONDITIO NS EXPECTED. STRONG WINDS MAY ALSO DOWN SOME POWER LINES...TREE LIMBS...AND CHRISTMAS DECORATIONS.
Residents are asked to park vehicles off the street when possible to make clearing the roads of snow easier for the department of public works. Also you are asked to not place items in the roadway to save parking spots.
